What we’re about
This is a group for anyone interested in bookbinding, book crafts, artist books, and handmade books in general. All skill levels are welcome. Throughout the year, we'll cover a huge variety of different bookbinding styles, demonstrating and practicing everything from handstitched leatherbound notebooks, to folded paper mini-books, to Japanese stab-bound books, to Coptic-sewn sketchbooks/scrapbooks, and everything in between. I started this group to meet other bookbinding/book-crafts enthusiasts, and to bring us together on a regular basis to encourage sharing of our bookbinding projects, ideas and skills. Monthly Masterclass workshops will also be on offer (all materials, templates, and instructions provided; costing between $50-$120pp for a 4hr weekend workshop) for anyone keen to learn new techniques from a professional bookbinding tutor.

BOOKBINDING WORKSHOP:
Multi-needle Coptic binding
Saturday 24 May 2025, 1-5:30pmWe will be making an A5-sized book with hard-board covers front and back (paper-wrapped with fancy/found papers), and an exposed spine featuring a colourful chain-link stitch that binds the book together using the visually-pleasing Coptic stitch technique. The decorative sewing allows the book to open beautifully flat, making it perfect for binding your own journals, sketchbooks, scrapbooks, albums, or notebooks.
In this workshop all materials are provided, and you can choose from an assortment of different papers/card, a colourful range of waxed-linen thread, and a variety of upcycled leathers (for the soft cover book) to make a unique and personalised book.
Ideal for complete beginners, as well as those who would like to expand their range of bookbinding techniques. You'll be able to examine finished examples of Coptic-bound books, and draw inspiration from the variations and possibilities.
All tools and materials are provided as part of the workshop, but you are welcome to bring your own items from home (i.e. A3 cutting mat, a metal ruler, craft/Stanley knife, pencil, awl, bonefolder, and any sheets of fancy/coloured/found papers if you want to use these in your books)
Comprehensive instructions and templates are also included, to enable you to continue making more books at home.
