Learn to write basic Italic and Roman letterforms.
These versatile and elegant lettering styles are perfect for writing poems, certificates and invitations, and for adding a special touch to your journals and artist books.
You will experiment with a wide variety of calligraphy tools, and learn spacing techniques, interesting variations and flourishing, and the characteristics of many other different scripts.
Well-planned layout is just as important as nicely-formed letters, so students will be shown useful techniques for creating pleasing designs, and using borders and colour effectively.
Suitable for complete beginners as well as those wishing to refine their calligraphy skills.
PLEASE NOTE - This workshop is run over the course of 4 afternoons on the following dates:
- Sunday 5 October 1:00-5:30pm
- Sunday 12 October 1:00-5:30pm
- Sunday 2 November 1:00-5:30pm
- Sunday 9 November 1:00-5:30pm

About Tricia Smout - website
Tricia Smout is a Brisbane teacher and multi-media artist who has been teaching Calligraphy and Paper Crafts for over forty years. She loves working with all types of textiles, exploring their tactile qualities and playing with colour combinations, using a wide variety of techniques. Tricia is passionate about calligraphy, and often uses letters, words and symbols as the inspiration to create hangings, artist books, sculptures and wearable art. Her work has been exhibited, purchased and published in Australia and overseas. In 2012 she had the privilege of being Artist-in-Residence at Brisbane Botanic Gardens.
