Lullabies for Little Criminals by Heather O'Neill
Details
For our February flagship meeting we will be reading Lullabies for Little Criminals by Heather O'Neill. Thank you to Jess & Melissa for hosting - please give them a warm welcome to hosting!
Lullabies for Little Criminals by Heather O’Neill. (Canadian) Genre: Literary Fiction, Coming-of-Age, Bio: Thirteen-year-old Baby drifts between childhood and adulthood on the streets of Montreal, still clutching her dolls while learning far too much about survival. Living with her unreliable, addicted father, she survives on imagination, small joys, and quick wit. But when her beauty draws the attention of a charming and dangerous pimp, Baby must decide whether to keep drifting or fight for her own escape. Lullabies for Little Criminals is a raw, tender coming-of-age story about resilience, innocence, and choosing yourself in a world that rarely protects you..
FAQ:
How does this book club work?
Read as much of the book as you can prior to all of us meeting on the last Thursday of the month. If you've read 0% of the book, then you can absolutely attend - just be prepared for spoilers and a good time! When we meet on the last Thursday of the month, the two hosts will lead a discussion about the book, and we will also share ratings! Some hosts like to come with a list of questions, some go with the flow. Asking what others thought about a certain thing in the book is okay, but openly criticizing how the hosts are running the book club will not be tolerated.
Can I host?
You can host if you have attended at least one book club in-person, which will be verified against attendance records.
Why is the list limited to 15 participants?
It is limited to 15 due to limited seating at Pheasant Plucker (especially if we are sitting on the first floor near the back), and to ensure a smooth conversation where everyone has an opportunity to speak. We do sometimes have more than 15 signed up, as we do expect some people to have last minute conflicts. Please read the book even if you are on the waitlist, as people's RSVPs do change.
