DO YOU LOVE TO READ? DO YOU LOVE TO TALK ABOUT THE BOOKS YOU'VE READ?
If so, then we'd love to have you become a member of The Bookies!
We are a diverse group comprised of young, in between, old, male, and female members. Our meetings are held once a month (the third Monday) at Earth Fare, Turkey Creek, in West Knoxville.
At each meeting we discuss our current selection and pick the next book for the upcoming month. Even if you do not get a chance to read or complete the book, do not hesitate to come and enjoy the discussion.
Most importantly, we have fun!
There is no membership fee and our only requirement is to have fun meeting new people while discussing our current book selection. We do not host online discussions of our selections.
This is the compelling story of U.S. Air Force Major Joe Mack, a man born out of time. When his experimental aircraft is forced down in Russia and he escapes a Soviet prison camp, he must call upon the ancient skills of his Indian forebears to survive the vast Siberian wilderness. Only one route lies open to Mack: the path of his ancestors, overland to the Bering Strait and across the sea to America. But in pursuit is a legendary tracker, the Yakut native Alekhin, who knows every square foot of the icy frontier—and who knows that to trap his quarry he must think like a Sioux.

In the bestselling tradition of Hidden Figures and The Wives of Los Alamos, comes this riveting novel of the everyday people who worked on the Manhattan Project during World War II.
“What you see here, what you hear here, what you do here, let it stay here.”
In November 1944, eighteen-year-old June Walker boards an unmarked bus, destined for a city that doesn’t officially exist. Oak Ridge, Tennessee has sprung up in a matter of months—a town of trailers and segregated houses, 24-hour cafeterias, and constant security checks. There, June joins hundreds of other young girls operating massive machines whose purpose is never explained. They know they are helping to win the war, but must ask no questions and reveal nothing to outsiders.
