-
Over 1,4 million room nights reserved daily with a fast growing trend;
-
Infrastructure supported by more than 25,000 servers across the world;
-
Hundreds of experiments and dozens of roll-outs per day…
It is time for us to share how we do that.
Let’s meet to discuss the aspects of building a scalable platform and challenges in keeping it safe.
We have three presentations from our side and we’d like to hear your feedback in an open discussion afterward.
‘Kafka at Booking.com‘
Ankit Bhatnagar, SRE @ Booking.com
As Booking.com grows, the scale at which we produce & consume data grows as well. So does our need to ‘transport’ it from one place to another, to ‘communicate’ it from one application to another & to ‘transform’ it from one form into another. Kafka was built for this very purpose. In this presentation, we talk about how we leverage all of its capabilities at Booking.com and the future that we want to take it to.
“Cron Jobs at Booking.com: from hard coded configs to distributed scheduler”
Dmitrii Tcyganov, Core Infra @ Booking.com
At Booking.com many business processes heavily rely on periodic jobs. Historically, these jobs were managed with Cron Deamon. For many years it worked. But after the number of jobs exceeded one thousand and kept growing we decided to change our approach to a clustered solution. In the talk, we’ll describe the steps we did from evaluating open source solutions to developing our own scheduling system”
‘When you don't WannaCry: How the best security practices saved the day‘
Anastasios Pingios & Mathias Rørbo Jessen, Security @ Booking.com
In early May 2017, there was the first ever ransomware attack delivered via a worm-like exploit for Windows SMBv1 implementation. This presentation will show how Booking.com security department responded and what we can learn from that.
