Who Was Edgar Allan Poe? A talk with Matt Stanley

Who was Edgar Allan Poe?

A romantic or a manipulator?
A genius or a madman?
How should we understand Poe's conflicted soul?

Edgar Allan Poe is one of literature's most documented but most elusive writers – a man who occasionally vanished for months, who masqueraded under false names, and who lied habitually about his biography.

🥀 Join us for a discussion on Poe, hosted by author Matt Stanley who has produced an unconventional biography aiming to uncover the darkness behind the man and to provide readers with some new perspectives.

Matt's interest in Poe has been lifelong, including a Master's thesis on Poe as the originator of detective fiction, and in a novel series inspired by Poe's story "The Man of the Crowd." He approaches his subject as a critic, a reader and as an author.
