“Migrations” & bird watching Ocean City Welcome Center

Details

How lucky are we to have one of the best locations on the east coast to see migrating herons? By this time eggs have hatched and baby herons have emerged. Make sure to bring your camera!! Join Denise in Somers points and walk the ninth Street bridge to the Ocean City Welcome Center where we will stay for about an hour observing and taking pictures of the many different herons present. Afterwards we will walk back to Somers points over the bridge and have some lunch at the Crab Trap restaurant.

NOVEL: Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy
Genre: Science Fiction, Literary Fiction, Dystopia

Franny Stone has always been the kind of woman who is able to love but unable to stay. Leaving behind everything but her research gear, she arrives in Greenland with a singular purpose: to follow the last Arctic terns in the world on what might be their final migration to Antarctica. Franny talks her way onto a fishing boat, and she and the crew set sail, traveling ever further from shore and safety. But as Franny's history begins to unspool- a passionate love affair, an absent family, a devastating crime - it becomes clear that she is chasing more than just the birds. When Franny's dark secrets catch up with her, how much is she willing to risk for one more chance at redemption? Epic and intimate, heartbreaking and galvanizing, Charlotte McConaghy's Migrations is an ode to a disappearing world and a breathtaking page-turner about the possibility of hope against all odds.

ADVENTURE: Bird Watching and hike over Ocean City 9th street bridge

If we decide to do the bridge in entirety it will be about 5 miles round trip. Make sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and water as there is little to no shade. We will stop at the Ocean City welcome center for about an hour to observe and take pictures of the many different types of herons and hopefully see many new fledglings. We will walk back to somers points where we will have lunch and discuss the book at the Crab Trap restaurant which never disappoints.

FEE: bring money for lunch!

Happy reading
Denise
