Une autre fin du monde est possible !
Comment la littérature peut nous aider à comprendre le monde et nous donner des outils pour le transformer.

Vous n’êtes pas un-e grand-e lecteur-rice et n’avez jamais participé à un club de lecture ? Ou vous êtes un-e passionné-e de lecture et adorez la fiction climatique (climate fiction en anglais ou cli-fi pour les intimes) ? Vous vous situez quelque part entre les deux ? Tout le monde est le bienvenu à cette série d’ateliers interdisciplinaire de courte durée sur la fiction climatique qui abordera la question suivante : comment la fiction peut-elle contribuer à stimuler de nouvelles réflexions et discussions sur la situation critique de notre planète, voire de faire mentir la citation “Il est plus facile d’imaginer la fin du monde que la fin du capitalisme” ?

Nous aborderons dans ce premier atelier :
– l’histoire du genre
– les différents genres de cli-fi
– les liens entre la cli-fi et les connaissances sur les sciences du climat
– la cli-fi et la géopolitique et le rôle du Sud Global
– la cli-fi et la violence : l’ eco-terrorisme et sa répression
– la cli-fi et les affects et les émotions sombres (eco-anxiété , repli sur soi, deuil, etc) mais aussi joyeuses (résilience, joie des luttes collectives)
Enfin nous ferons le choix d’un roman à étudier pour les prochaines éditions parmi ces qautre exemples :
– Le ministère de futur de Kim Stanley Robinson ( disponible en FR DE et EN et audiobook)
– Le Déluge de Stephen Marckley (disponible en EN et FR)
– Et la forêt brûlera sous nos pas de Jens Liljestrand (disponible en FR et EN)
– And So I Roar de Aby Daré (lauréate du premier Prix de cli-fi en 2025, seulement disponible en EN)

The screening will be followed by a discussion on the role of public libraries in promoting diversity and combating misinformation.

Dr. Rainer Werning is a German political scientist and journalist based in Cologne. He is an authority on the history, culture and sociopolitical developments in Southeast Asia, in particular in the Philippines, and has travelled regularly in the region regularly since 1968.
Over the years he has contributed several articles on the Philippines in the brennpunkt.

His latest work Von Marcos zu Marcos: Die Philippinen seit 1965, which he edited in collaboration with the German theologian Jörg Schwieger, was published in the run up to this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair, at which the Philippines were Guest of Honour.
The book comprises a collection of essays by Filipinos and non-Filipinos that describe the history, the societal, sociopolitical and economic developments in the country and its geopolitical role in the Asisa-Pacific region from various perspectives.

In his presentation, Dr. Werning will give insights into the current political situation in the Philippines under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the geopolitical impacts it could have in the Asia-Pacific region.

There will be time after the talk for questions and an open discussion.
