About us
Just a nice, friendly book club :-) - we usually get together to discuss the book for about 90 minutes, followed by a period of chit chat. We are not genre specific – In the past, we’ve read everything from Kate Folk’s Skydaddy, to Hala Alyan’s Salt Houses, Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club and Taylor Jenkins Reid’s Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Each month’s book is decided by poll from nominations put forward by members. The group might occasionally run other events, such as non-fiction, a pub quiz and maybe the odd dinner in Gosforth, but the core event will be the book club which meets at the Barca Art Bar on Gosforth High Street, usually on the 3rd or 4th Thursday of the month. The Barca does do an absolutely lovely tapas menu, although if numbers are high they might request that people order in advance so bear that in mind.
Please – no racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia and no sexual harassment.

Books at the Barca
Barca Art Bar, 182 High Street, Tyne and Wear, GBDear All,
The people have voted, and this time we will be reading Butter by Asako Yuzuki! :-) In the words of the Guardian, 'Yuzuki exposes the misogynistic gristle, resulting in an incisive, at times thrilling novel about fatphobia, the pleasures of consumption and the often murky relationship between food and trauma': Butter by Asako Yuzuki review – a tasty exposé of fatphobia and trauma | Fiction in translation | The Guardian
Look forward to seeing you there! If it's your first time, then we usually have one of the fireplace tables towards the back of the venue booked, so just come and say hi :-)
There is lovely tapas on offer, although if it's going to be busy they may ask for you to order in advance
