Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson is a story that takes place in the future after a worldwide economic collapse and LA is not longer a part of the US.
In LA, Hiro is pizza delivery person for the Mafia, and a freelance computer hacker. When he is unable to make a pizza delivery. Y.T. completes the delivery and they strike up a friendship. Later Y.T. is offered freelance jobs by a Mafia boss.
Hiro is given a computer file named Snow Crash by a man who says it's a narcotic. When Hiro and a friend view the file, the computer crashes and his friend suffers brain damage. Hiro begins to investigate and eventually this leads to meeting Y.T. again and they team up to solve the Snow Crash mystery.
