ASTRONOMY - Lecture and Skywatching

Details

Did you know New Berlin has a world class observatory? Home of the Milwaukee Astronomical Society, the observatory possesses one of the largest amateur club observatories in the world, featuring 9 observatory buildings, almost entirely financed, built, and maintained by members.

The club actively promotes scientific contributions, writes scientific papers for publication and has given many presentations. During warmer weather they offer open houses like this one where non-members can attend a lecture and afterwards get a chance to peek through the telescopes.

This event will feature a talk by a high school student who won a Youth Service award. He will be talking about Exoplanet citizen science work that is done at the observatory and his work with monitoring what they find. After dark, we will move outside to use the telescopes. One of them is so large you climb a ladder to view! Last time I was there I saw the rings of Saturn with that one. In the event of cloudy weather, they will live stream to some telescopes in the Canary Islands.
