Support Public Lands - 4th of July Parade in Boone

Mountain True (mountaintrue.org) is sponsoring a march as part of the Town of Boone 4th of July Parade on Friday, the 4th of July. The theme of the march is Protect Our Public Lands and Environmental Quality, The Sierra Club will be joining other environmental groups and conservation -minded people as we march together supporting public lands. There will be printed signs for some marchers to carry (Support Our National Parks and Forests, Protect Our Trout Streams, Protect Endangered Species, Keep Our Air & Water Clean, etc.). We'll have our Sierra Club banner so look for us at the staging area at 10:30.
The parade permit rules specify, "No demonstrating or protesting is allowed by parade participants." Our message will be positive and apolitical, without chants or slogans. If you have a national park or national forest T shirt or hat be sure to wear it.
Downtown parking is free on the 4th. Arrive early and assemble at the Watauga County Social Services parking lot next to the County Health Department no later than 10:30. Marchers can hand out candy, but no throwing. The parade ends at The Daniel Boone Inn, but tired marchers can drop out earlier.
