Standing at 1345m, Ben Nevis is not only Scotland’s, but also Britain’s largest mountain! A must on any adventurer’s bucket list!
This more technical route sees us not only conquering Ben Nevis following the Carn Mor Dearg (CMD) arrete, but also scrambling up one of the lines giving us a grade 1 scramble. It starts from Glen Nevis on the outskirts of the historic town of Fort William, which is abundant with accommodation and parking, giving you the choice of rocking up in the morning or staying the night before.
We follow the Mountain Track taking in the amazing views, whilst crossing a couple of small fords until we reach our Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe, the picturesque loch, where our path then splits from the normal tourist route and we swing round to the Charles Inglis Clark (CIC) Hut. Here we have a break taking in the views before embarking on our scramble.
Once up on the arrete, we continue to the summit to take in some of the most spectacular views in Britain! - THE WAINWRIGHTS SERIES – THE LANGDALE PIKES – 10 WAINWRIGHTSNeeds location£35.00

Yorkshire 3 Peaks Weekend
Cost: £199.00
Duration: 2 nights
Accommodation: Hostel
Level: Moderate
Age: Over 18’s onlyCome and join us on our Yorkshire 3 Peaks Weekend, walking in a small sociable group, sharing the adventure, making new friends and enjoying the authentic hostel experience.
With the iconic mountains of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent forming part of the the Pennines and climbed by thousands every year, either separately or as part of the popular Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, the Yorkshire Dales form the very southern tip of our beloved Lake District, with these peaks being famously included by Alfred Wainwright as the Southern Fells.
The Yorkshire Dales is home to outstanding scenery, great castles, abbeys and a breathtakingly peaceful atmosphere. At its heart are two very special protected areas – Yorkshire Dales National Park and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) – as well as it having the Forest of Bowland AONB and North Pennines AONB as its close neighbours. These protected areas are truly not to be missed.
Each of the Yorkshire Dales has a different character. The Southern Dales are less remote, yet still wildly beautiful. The Northern Dales provide wild heather moorland and valleys full of hay meadows, dry stone walls and barns.
We arrive on Friday evening to be greeted by our Host, settle in and enjoy a lovely freshly prepared meal whilst getting to know each other. A little music, fun and games whilst sat around a real fire … but don’t get carried away, we’re up early and out for a full days hiking, taking in one of Britain’s favourite and iconic walks in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge will take us along 24 miles and over three mountains in under 12 hours!
We’ll ascend a total of 1585m over Ingleborough (723m), Pen-y-Ghent (694m) and Whernside (736m), which form part of the Pennine mountain range, all in the outstanding beauty of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
A fully qualified, experienced and first aid trained Mountain Leader will accompany us in small groups of about ten fellow challengers, taking out the need to concentrate on route finding and wasting time taking wrong turns, which will allow us to just concentrate on putting one foot in front of the other whilst also enjoying the stunning views.
There’ll be lots of encouragement throughout the day and although tough, it’s meant to be a friendly experience with our Mountain Leader there to aid us to the finish.
As long as you have a reasonable level of fitness, you’ll just need to dig deep in those final few miles to prove to yourself and all those who doubted you and thought you were bonkers, that you can do it!
The sense of achievement you’ll feel at the end will make you feel totally exhilarated; in many cases emotional and will have made it all worthwhile and more than likely inspired you for your next adventure!
We return to our bunkhouse late afternoon to reflect on a brilliant day of trekking whilst being treated to another fantastic freshly prepared meal, followed by a great night of socialising!
