Have you ever wanted to try backpacking but didn't know where to start?
This two-day guided adventure is the perfect introduction to carrying everything you need, camping overnight and learning the essential skills needed for future multi-day hikes.
We'll walk approximately 17–18 miles over two days, following sections of the beautiful South Downs Way from Hassocks to Southease, with an overnight stay at Housedean Campsite.

Along the way you'll learn practical backpacking skills including:

  • Using a map and compass
  • Backpack packing and fitting
  • Walking with a loaded rucksack
  • Campcraft
  • Outdoor cooking and food planning
  • Route planning and navigation

No previous backpacking experience is required. This event is aimed at walkers with a reasonable level of fitness who are looking to take the next step into multi-day adventures.

INCLUDED
✔ Guided expedition led by Ian Henderson
✔ Navigation tuition throughout the weekend
✔ Pre-adventure workshop in Iwade (25th August) or online (31st August)
✔ Tent and stove hire if required
✔ Small group experience (maximum 7 participants)

  • A minimum 65-litre backpack
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sleeping mat
  • Walking boots
  • Clothing for two days
  • Food for the expedition
