Feb Meetup - Introduction to Video Tech

This will be a special event, intended for those that are new to or interested in video technology. A few introductory talks will be given on HLS, CMAF(and a bit of DASH) and WebRTC. Afterwards, we'll have a freeform workshop where you can attempt to use the technologies covered, assisted by volunteer mentors that have been through it before.
NOTE: RSVPs will close the day before the meetup by 1PM! Please bring an ID for sign-in to the building.

Thiago Teixeira (Brightcove) - Intro to Video Streaming with CMAF
Video streaming currently represents more than 60% of the web traffic. With the increasing popularity of OTT platforms, mobile device penetration, and the upcoming 5G, demand for video streaming is set to increase even more.
In this presentation, learn how video streaming at scale works, its basic building blocks, a look at the MPEG-DASH manifest, and CMAF.
Alex Barstow (Brightcove) - Intro to Apple's HTTP Live Streaming (HLS): The De Facto Standard for Video Streaming
This presentation provides an overview of the HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) protocol. Due to its widespread device support, it has become today's de facto standard for video streaming. This talk will cover the structure of both live and VOD (video-on-demand) HLS streams, its differences, benefits, and downsides compared to DASH, an introduction to adaptive bitrate streaming, as well as a walkthrough of how to generate HLS content.
Chris Allen (Red5 Pro) - Intro to WebRTC
CEO and Technical Co-founder of Red5 Pro will give a high-level introduction to WebRTC and its various use cases. He will discuss the importance of latency in live video streaming applications and talk about how WebRTC addresses this concern. Chris will then talk about the usage of WebRTC in Red5 Pro and will show off some demos. Afterwards participants can try implementing their own applications during the workshop phase of the Meetup.
