Learning Circle: Introduction to Genomics

Come and learn Genomics fundamentals with us! Starting on January 22nd and for 13 weeks, BosLab will host a Learning Circle to enhance and expand online learning through lively discussions and group activities. All levels in genomics are welcome with opportunities to learn and teach, as we will tune each meeting to participants' needs and interests.

About this Meeting:

Before this fourth meeting of the Learning Circle, please study the learning sequence "Observing" in the unit "Genomics - Observing and Perturbing the Genome to Probe Function" of the "Introduction to Biology - The Secret of Life" online course.

Learning Circle Organization:

Learning Circles are free, facilitated study groups for learners who want to take online courses, together and in person. More information about Learning Circles can be found on the P2PU website: https://www.p2pu.org/en/.

During this Learning Circle, we will study units 8 through 10, focused on genomics, from the MIT/EdX course "Introduction to Biology - The Secret of Life" (https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-to-biology-the-secret-of-life-0). Participants will meet biweekly on Wednesdays from 7 to 9 pm at BosLab (10 Harvey Street, Cambridge, MA 02140), except when noted otherwise on the BosLab Meetup page (https://www.meetup.com/BosLab/events/). They should also prepare before each meeting by studying the corresponding section of the online course, indicated in the schedule below, which represents 2-3 hours of personal work per week.

Learning Circle Prerequisites:

Having completed units 1 through 7 of the "Introduction to Biology - The Secret of Life" online course, focused on Biochemistry, Genetics, and Molecular Biology, is recommended to participate in this Learning Circle, but all levels of experience in genomics are welcome. In the spirit of Learning Circles, we will organize group learning activities which will give opportunities for more advanced participants to help beginners and for everyone to improve their understanding of biology, in a friendly and low-pressure environment.
