Microbial Postcards: Agar Art Night at BOSLab

Where would you send a postcard painted with microbes?
Join us for a fun evening of science and creativity as we make agar art inspired by the places we love! The 2026 American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Agar Art Competition theme is “Microbial Postcards: Exploring the Microbial Stories Behind the Places We Love.”
From Boston’s skyline and your favorite beach to a hometown landmark or dream travel destination, choose a place that inspires you and bring it to life using colorful microbes as your palette and agar as your canvas.
No art or microbiology experience needed just curiosity and imagination! Come meet fellow science enthusiasts, try something new, and create a tiny living tribute to a place close to your heart.
Interested in entering your artwork in the ASM competition? Prizes include:

• First place: $200
• Second place: $150
• Third place: $100

Bring an inspiration photo or an idea, and let’s show how Microbes Make Our World!
