AI for Health and Law: Dealing with Data, Private and Public
Details
Join us at the Microsoft New England Research and Development (NERD) center on Friday night March 22nd for two exciting presentations about the cutting edge concerns and uses for AI in healthcare and law. If you came to our last meetup, you heard me talk about where AI is headed in 2024. This time I’ve brought 3 fantastic individuals all working on leveraging AI for Healthcare or Law.
Michael Fahey:
Using LLM’s and GenAI with Healthcare Data, HIPAA, and De-Identification
This will be an introduction to Healthcare Data and De-Identification, particularly in regard to HIPAA, how it applies to structured and unstructured text, and the implications of using LLM’s and GenAI with Protected Health Information (PHI).
The presentation will introduce the concepts of Protected Health Information (PHI), Personally Identifiable Information (PII), Pseudonymized Data, Anonymized Data, De-Identified Data, and the distinctions between them. In addition, Michael will review the concepts of Risk Management of Re-Identification, quantifying risk, and best practices. He will give examples using structured text and then will explain options when working with unstructured text. The session will then explain considerations that need to be made when using LLM’s with healthcare data from a regulatory, healthcare provider, and BAA points of view and where the industry is now and how to better understand the claims being made by various vendors.
A copy of the slides and useful reference links will be distributed after the presentation.
With over 20 years of experience in healthcare, life sciences, AI, and cloud, Michael Fahey has been responsible for creating multiple platforms using patient data from various sources including EHR's, Claims, Practice Management, Remote Patient Monitoring, and Mobile apps into a single enriched longitudinal record with Master Data and Identity Management.
He is a Certified De-Identification Professional (HITRUST CDP) and a HealthCare Information Security and Privacy Professional (ISC2 HCISPP). Michael has a proven track record of bringing innovation to market in compliance with regulatory requirements for security and privacy. Michael is passionate about leveraging AI and big data to transform healthcare and empower patients and providers.
Kara Peterson and Richard DiBona:
descrybe.ai was built in Greater Boston by Richard DiBona and Kara Peterson, a husband and wife team who share an interest in technology, the law, and the democratization of information. Rich brings deep experience in using emerging technology to solve complex problems, and Kara is a communications and marketing expert with a special focus on mission-driven organizations and social justice.
descrybe.ai is a singular new way to search for and understand case law. Their unique process leverages generative AI to make complex legal information more accessible to professionals and laypeople alike. They are laser-focused on easy access to case law research, by lowering cost (it's free!), increasing ease of use, and employing natural language search and summarization capability.
RSVP is required, and a government issued ID is needed to enter the building. No one who has not RSVP'd will be able to attend, due to building security policies. Please ensure your meetup account includes your real first and last name to ensure no issues entering the building.
Light refreshments will be served.
