Description: Join us for this moderate 4.1 mile winter hike, with 1370 feet of elevation gain to Stinson Mountain, near Rumney NH. This hike is on the NH "52WAV" hiking list, and while the 2900' peak is mostly tree covered, there is potential for a beautiful 360 degree view, with a clear view to Mt Moosilauke, with weather cooperation. We plan to hike at a moderate pace (1-1.5mph), adjusting for incline and conditions. We will hike as a group allowing time for photos, and conversation.
This is a winter hike. Full winter gear is required for this trip, including microspikes, winter layers, insulated boots, and headlamp. This is a well travelled trail and should be well-packed. In the event of recent/fresh snow, however, snowshoes (with traction) will be required. Please review the AMC winter hiking gear list (above treeline gear is not required) https://hb.amcboston.org/images/docs/Gear_lists/Winter_Dayhike_equip.pdf . Please notify the leaders if you are missing any of the required gear, prior to the hike.
Participants should have experience hiking a roughly similar distance and elevation, as well as previous winter hiking experience. We will take short breaks for snacks, layering etc. Lunch break will depend on weather conditions, please bring plenty of snacks and things to eat in the go. Speed will depend on conditions and group comfort, so plan to be outside for a minimum of 5+ hours on the trail. Space is limited. The trip will be altered or cancelled if the weather does not cooperate, including dangerous driving conditions before or after the hike. Detailed information will be sent to approved participants several days before the hike. Given that there is limited parking at the trailhead, carpooling is strongly encouraged.
This is a Womens+ hike. These experiences are led by women, gender non-conforming, trans, and non-binary folks for members of these groups.
