Description: Join us for a Sunday hike up Mt. Cabot! While admittedly not the most scenic of summits, we can hope for a winter wonderland in the woods as we travel the 9.6 miles out and back, with approximately 3,000 feet of elevation gain. We will hike at a moderate pace, and depending on trail conditions and whether or not we are breaking trail, we expect to be on trail for between 7 and 9 hours. The trail includes some small water crossings, that will likely be frozen over at this time of year.
Required Gear 400g insulated boots, microspikes, snowshoes, waterproof shell, layers appropriate to the forecast conditions and experience managing them, 2+ liters of warm water in insulated containers, and a headlamp. See the AMC Winter Day Hike Gear List for a full set of recommended gear. Above treeline gear will not be needed on this hike.
Participants should have some recent winter hiking experience at comparable distance and elevation gain, although this hike would be appropriate for current WHP participants who have experience/are comfortable with managing their gear and layers on hikes in the White Mountains or similar of between 7 and 9 miles.
