Description: Come enjoy a moderate paced hike (1.0 to 1.5 mph) of Mt Pierce (4,310 ft) and Mt Eisenhower (4,757 ft) via Crawford Path. The hike is approximately 8.7 miles with 3,330 ft of elevation gain. Breaks will be minimal due to colder March temperatures, though we will stop briefly for gear changes and break for snack/lunch. The total trail time will be between 6 to 9 hours. The summits provide amazing views of the surrounding Presidential range.
While this is a spring hike according to the calendar, expect winter conditions on the trail. The approach to Mt Pierce is in the woods breaking tree line at the summit. The hike to Mt Eisenhower is fully exposed with potential for hard ice on the summit cone. Winter gear is required to participate. Participants should bring the items listed on the AMC Four Season Gear List . An ice axe is NOT required. We’ll do a gear check at the trailhead to make sure everyone has the appropriate equipment. This hike is considered strenuous and is best suited for people who are in good physical health with recent winter hiking experience over mountain terrain of similar distance and elevation gain. Hikers should be able to independently manage their body temp with winter layers and the use of their traction and trekking poles.
To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt-out.
