Description: Wondering about what to do during mud season? Julie and Holly have curated 3 hikes near Boston that will keep you in shape for summer hiking. Join us for one, two or all three hikes.
The first hike is a 14 mile conditioning hike with 800 ft gain through the dunes, along part of the beach as well as trails through fields, grass and forests around Crane Castle. There is water crossing with a narrow bridge. We will stroll past the stables, around the castle, through the gardens, in the “casino” and march the sweeping lawn from the castle to the ocean edge returning to our cars in the parking lot. Expect to be at the Crane Estate for 6-7 hours . Participants should be in good shape and able to hike at a pace of 2.4-2.7 mph. Please bring plenty of snacks. We will take a few short breaks and a slightly longer break for lunch. A suggestion for how much water to bring will be made a couple of days prior to the hike depending on the temperature that day, as will the recommendations for rain gear and layering.
The hike will begin and end at the Crane Beach parking lot. Participants will need to purchase a one day car pass - $8 for Trustees members and $15 for non members. There will be an option after hiking ~14 miles to add an additional 6 miles of beach hiking.
This hike is part of a 3 hike conditioning series. Join us for 1, 2 or all 3 hikes. The other 2 hikes are: April 13 (rain date April 14): Hike to almost every corner of the Winchester, Medford, and Melrose Fells, ~ 14 mile conditioning hike with ~ 3000 ft gain April 23: Trail Trace Wachusett Mountain, ~ 17 miles and 4400 ft gain
