Description: Bear Brook State Park is over 10,000 acres, and straddles across four towns, and offers great opportunities for hiking. This park is also surrounded by other large swaths of protected land, including land owned by Manchester Waterworks and the Bear Paw land trust. We will explore the center section of this large park, hiking about 7.8-miles with no significant elevation gain. Our hike will begin from the Hayes Field Parking Area where we will follow the Bobcat and Broken Boulder Trails to the scenic Hall Mountain Marsh, the headwaters of Bear Brook. From Hall Mountain Marsh our next destination will be Bear Hill Pond, which is a great lunch location, and we will enjoy great views of the pond. After lunch the Ledge and Lowland trails will take us back to the parking area. Have your rain gear in case of showers, and in case the bugs are biting, bring insect repellent. This time of year, it is always a good idea to pack a mosquito head net. Remember to have about 2-qts of water and snacks/lunch. A garden keeling pad or a piece of an old yoga map or sleeping pad are useful items to sit on during lunch and breaks.
