Description: This hike is part of the Boston Chapter’s Women’s+ Hiking Series, a series of hikes that begin in the 3-4 mile range in May/June, with options to progressively increase in distance (up to 10 miles) and difficulty throughout the summer. Click here to see other hikes in the series. Jump in wherever is comfortable for you, and join us (for one hike or more) in building strength, experience, confidence, and community in the outdoors!
Join us for a beautiful hike up Mts. Liberty and Flume, two peaks on the NH48 4000ft list. On a clear day, both peaks offer fantastic views of the surrounding area! Hike will be roughly 9 miles with 4200 ft of elevation gain. While we aim for this trip to be accessible as possible, we will strive to keep a moderate pace (1.5-2 mph) in order to complete the long, all day hike in a reasonable amount of time. Attendees should be comfortable hiking steep, rocky trails and have experience with hikes of similar mileage and elevation gain.
Please note that Chao will only be assisting with setting up the carpooling functionality for the trip (carpooling information will be shared with confirmed participants). He is not helping to lead this trip and will not be on the trip.
This is intended to be a Womens+ affinity trip , but everyone is welcome. If you do not identify with that group, we trust that you have reviewed our allyship criteria, have done your due diligence to educate yourself, and have committed to abide by our Code of Conduct .
Gear Important items (required) Hiking boots or trail runners with traction sole. Water bottles/containers, hydration bladder 2-3 liters of water Multiple layers of non-cotton clothing A change of dry clothes (if needed on the trail or for after the hike) Rain gear (mandatory rain jacket) Lunch and high energy snacks Flashlight / headlamp with extra batteries Personal medications: For example, an inhaler (asthma), Epi-pen (allergies), ibuprofen, etc. Sun protection (sunscreen, sunglasses, etc) Backpack big enough to hold all of your items Recommended: Camera Trekking poles Bandana Map and compass Personal first aid kit Whistle Due to the difficulty of this hike, participants who arrive at the trailhead without appropriate gear and clothing may not be able to join the hike. If you need any help or suggestions on obtaining/borrowing any necessary gear, please reach out to the leadership team for help.
Carpool We will send out a google sheet to help coordinate carpool for which we will pre-populate using the questions at registration. As a common courtesy, please reach out to participants offering rides as far in advance of the trip as possible. This is so participants looking for rides have enough time to arrange logistics with those offering to drive. We encourage carpooling because it is fun and it helps the environment. We suggest that carpoolers meet at a central location (i.e. a train station) to minimize driving if many people have to be picked up.
Map You can find the official map via the AMC online store . There are also many unofficial maps on various websites.
Weather We will be monitoring the weather as the day of the hike approaches. If the weather dictates a cancellation or postponement, we will send an email by 4pm the day before. NOAA Forecast
