Description: Join us on a Spring hike in the Mahoosuc Range showcasing spectacular views of the Presidentials and Old Speck. As we venture along the Appalachian Trail from NH to ME you will visit Mount Success (3592ft), a peak on the 52 With a View list, as well as Goose Eye Mountain (3886ft), #78 on the New England Hundred Highest list. The planned point to point route involves starting at Success Trail, traveling the Mahoosuc Trail, and descending Goose Eye Trail totaling ~9.5 miles and 3100 feet of elevation. A brief car shuttle between trailheads will be required at the onset of the hike. This route includes rocky and uneven terrain, bog boardwalks, boulder scrambles, iron rungs and ladders. The pace will be moderate, and we expect it to take about 7-8 hours depending on the number of photo opportunities. The planned route may be modified or canceled by the leader before or during the hike due to unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather or unacceptable trail conditions.
As an add on bonus we could continue from Goose Eye past Fulling Mill Mountain and descend Notch Trail totaling ~12 miles and ~3700 feet of elevation. This bonus trail will be at the discretion of the group leaders and will depend on trail conditions, weather, pace, fitness, and interest.
The hike is open to all who qualify. Participants will be screened to determine if they have recent hiking experience and proper gear to attend the hike. Participants should have comfortably completed recent comparable hikes (this year) of at least 6-8 miles with over 2,000 feet elevation gain. Hikers must have appropriate hiking boots, layered clothing, trail food/lunch, and a minimum of 2 liters of water.
