Description: A moderate paced hike for about 9 miles along a scenic section of the Midstate Trail. We will travel through a forest of mountain laurel to summit Mount Hunger with a beautiful view of the surrounding valley. We will also stop at scenic Muddy Pond. The route travels up and down some steep sections and has an overall elevation gain of approximately 1100 ft. There are several stream crossings, including one which requires traveling from rock to rock holding onto a rope .
Note : This is a point to point hike which requires a car spot. The parking lot where we are meeting is a dirt driveway. Cell service in the area is poor
This hike has a total elevation gain of about 1,100 ft and will be about 9 miles . Plan to be out for about 6+ hours depending on the pace of the group (which can vary). The hike leaders cannot guarantee the hike will be completed by any specific time.
Required Experience : For this trip, hikers must be comfortable navigating up and down hills including some steep sections for 9 miles. Hikers must have recently completed a hike of 7- 8 miles with an elevation gain of at least 1,000 ft. Hikers must be comfortable crossing a stream which requires traveling from rock to rock holding onto a rope.
When registering for this hike please provide info about the hikes you have completed recently which are similar to this hike and include the dates of those hikes (this information helps the hike leaders process your registration)
Required Gear: Sturdy Hiking Shoes. Wear moisture wicking layers and clothing appropriate for the temperatures and conditions A Daypack/Backpack packed with the following: Water (carry 2 liters of water) lunch and snacks Raincoat/rain gear (just in case) bug repellent/bug net/ sunscreen electrolytes and/or sport drink Personal first aid kit Hiking poles recommended headlamp
Hike information and details will be emailed to confirmed participants a few days prior to the hike. Steady rain/ thunderstorms/extreme temperatures and/or dangerous driving conditions cancels.
The hike leaders reserve the right to adjust the route if conditions warrant and cannot guarantee the hike will be completed by any specific time.
