Description: Join us for a vigorous hike of about 7 miles round trip with roughly 3,100 feet of elevation gain up Mt Moosilauke (4,802 ft) via the Beaver Brook Trail, one of the most scenic and challenging routes to the summit. We will maintain a moderate-fast pace of around 1.5 mph and participants should anticipate being on the trail for 5-6 hours. Participants should be comfortable hiking steep terrain and negotiating rock slabs that may be wet or slippery. There are numerous wooden steps and hand rungs and participants should be prepared to use their hands for scrambling on the ascent and descent. The Beaver Brook Trail is part of the Appalachian Trail and includes one of the steepest sections on the entire AT. It is also featured on the White Mountains' Terrifying 25 list, a collection of trails known for their steep, rugged, and adventurous terrain. If the weather cooperates, we'll be rewarded with outstanding summit views across the White Mountains and into Vermont. We will spend part of the hike above the treeline exposed to weather that could be cold and windy, or sunny and hot. Insulating layers including a hat and gloves, full rain and wind layers, and sun protection are required. Participants must bring a headlamp with spare batteries, carry 2 liters of water and plenty of dense, high-energy snacks. Participants should wear hiking boots or trail running shoes.

This hike is appropriate for participants with recent hikes of a similar elevation gain and mileage who maintain good cardiovascular fitness. After registration, a leader will reach out to schedule a phone conversation to ensure a good fit for the hike. Once confirmed, participants will be sent detailed information on start time and meeting location about a week before the hike.
To address unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather, unacceptable trail conditions or excessive crowding, the planned trip destination, activity and/or meeting place and time may be modified. In that event, participants may elect to join in that activity or opt out.
