Description: With a less travelled approach from the East, we will traverse Sleeper Ridge, passing East Sleeper (3864 ft) and then onto Middle Tripyramid (4140 ft) and North Tripyramid (4180 ft). Along with a walk through a remote valley that crosses multiple streambeds, we will have picturesque views of Sabbaday Falls. The hike will include a short car shuttle between trailheads before and after the hike.
This rugged route of about 14 miles and roughly 3500 feet of elevation gain contains rocky, steep, uneven terrain, and several water crossings. This hike is for experienced hikers and we are aiming for a moving pace on the fast side of moderate averaging around 1.5 and up to 2.0 mph. We expect to be slower on the ascent and faster on the smoother or flatter sections and take quick and efficient breaks for switching layers, hydrating, and snacking. Participants should be comfortable with steep rock scrambling and water crossings. We will hike as a group and expect the hike could take 7-9 hours depending on conditions.
This is a strenuous hike suitable for participants with a solid base of fitness and prior hiking experience. Registrants should expect a phone call from one of the leaders to discuss hiking experience, fitness, and required gear. Participants should have comfortably completed recent comparable hikes with at least two thirds of the elevation gain and distance of this hike within the past few months Hikers must have trail running shoes or hiking boots, water shoes, raingear, layered non-cotton clothing, trail food/lunch, a headlight and a minimum of 2-3 liters of water. We will be requiring microspikes for this hike.
Please see the 3-season gear list for reference: https://hb.amcboston.org/images/docs/Gear_lists/Spring_Dayhike_gear_list.pdf
The planned route may be modified or cancelled by the leader before or during the hike due to unforeseen challenges such as adverse weather or unacceptable trail conditions.
