Description: Moderate-paced 5- to 6-mile hike with AMC Boston Local Walks & Hikes through part of the Essex County Greenbelt that includes open meadows, wetlands and a "great" swamp, rolling hills, and deep woods with a total elevation gain of approximately 200 vertical feet.
Bring lunch/snack, water, poles, sturdy footwear, sunscreen, and bug spray.
Meet at the Woodsom South parking area along the left side of Lion's Mouth Road heading north from downtown Amesbury. From the traffic circle in the center of town, take Main Street to the first right onto Friend Street and go through the next traffic circle, with Friend Street soon becoming Lion's Mouth Road. The parking lot (which has a "Woodsom 1840 Farm" sign) will be at left about 1.3 miles from the first traffic circle downtown. (GPS coordinates: 42.8569351,-70.9531872; closest address: 207 Lion's Mouth Road, Amesbury, but use the more accurate GPS coordinates if you can, as the address is across the street from the lot.) Rain cancels.
NOTE: This is a show-and-go hike. You can register before Saturday and you won't need to fill out the paper waiver at the meeting spot.
