Description: Please join us for a moderately paced hike to the summit of Mt Moosilauke (elevation 4802 feet), a beautiful alpine peak with views of Mt Osceola, the Tripyramids, and Franconia Ridge. This vigorous out-and-back hike, following the Glencliff and Appalachian Trails and potentially including Moosilauke’s South Peak (elevation 4531 feet; dependent on weather and time), is approximately 7-8 miles with an elevation gain of around 3200-3400 feet. The trail gains elevation at a moderate slope with one steeper section and has rocky footing for about half of the hike. Due to the exposed nature of the summit, there is a chance of high winds and cold/wet weather approaching and at the summit. Hikers must have trail running shoes or hiking boots, raingear, layered non-cotton clothing, trail food/lunch, a headlight and a minimum of 2 liters of water depending on the temperature the day of the hike. We will take short breaks for snacks and lunch so plan for 6-7 hours on trail. Participants should have comfortably completed recent comparable hikes with at least ⅔ of the elevation gain and distance of this hike within the past month. Registrants should expect a phone call from one of the leaders to discuss hiking experience, fitness, and required gear. Three-season AMC-approved hiking gear is required: https://hb.amcboston.org/images/docs/Gear_lists/Spring_Dayhike_gear_list.pdf Space is limited. The trip will be altered or cancelled if the weather does not cooperate. Detailed information will be sent to approved participants several days before the hike.
