Description: Distance: ~5 miles round trip Elevation Gain: ~2,200 ft Estimated Hiking Time: ~4–5 hours, depending on conditions and group pace
Join us for a November ascent of Mt. Tecumseh , one of New Hampshire’s 4,000-footers. The route is primarily forested and does not involve a prolonged above-treeline section, making it a good opportunity to experience a higher-elevation White Mountain hike as winter conditions begin to set in. We’ll ascend and descend via Mt. Tecumseh Trail from the Waterville Trailhead. November conditions in the Whites can vary considerably. We may encounter snow, ice, mud, frozen ground, and/or slippery leaves. Microspikes should be considered essential equipment , and snowshoes may be necessary depending on recent snowfall and trail conditions.
Pace & Group Expectations This will be a steady, slow to moderate-paced hike , with the intention of going 1-1.5 miles per hour and taking breaks as needed. Participants should be comfortable hiking several miles with sustained elevation gain and descending potentially slippery terrain. We’ll stay together as a group and adjust the pace as necessary based on weather, trail conditions, and participant ability.
Required Gear Hiking boots with good traction Microspikes Trekking poles (optional) Warm, layered clothing Hat and gloves Waterproof/windproof shell Headlamp with fresh batteries At least 2 liters of water Lunch/snacks Emergency layers
