Description: Catch the height of fall on this hike to New Hampshire's Ragged Mountain. We'll have a walk through the open woods followed by a steady climb to the ridge. Along the ridge are subpeaks and outlooks from which (weather permitting) we'll see the season's colors wash across the valleys. There are some short scrambles to the high points. Total distance is about 7.5mi with 2000' of climb; we'll keep a moderate but steady pace of about 2mi/hr on rolling terrain (slower on the uphill). The hike is likely to take us about six hours, including short breaks to take in the view at each viewpoint.
We will hike in light rain; a forecast of heavy rain or severe thunderstorms will cancel. Usual three season hiking gear suitable to the weather is required, including a rain jacket, warm clothes, sturdy footwear, and food and water. See this example list and reach out to a leader if you have any questions. Participants should have done a similar hike this year (at least 5mi/1500' climb).
