Details

Let's get together, introduce ourselves, and learn about fast 'find' and 'locate' GNU 'fileutils' replacements!

We will be hosted by CIC (Cambridge Innovation Center), a shared-workspace focusing on the start-up community, at their 101 Main St. location in Kendall Square. We will be on the 14th floor, in 'Cloud City'. (Ring the bell to be let in.)

Tableau, the company of this evening's speaker, will be providing food and drinks.

Schedule:

  • 6:30 Charles Wilcox (Organizer): Group introduction, and plan next event(s) (15 min)
  • 6:45 Nga Tran (Tableau): C++ Development Opportunities (https://www.tableau.com/about/press-releases/2018/tableau-acquires-empirical-systems) (10 min)
    — break for food —
  • 7:15 Hung Dang: (Tableau): 'fast-find' and 'fast-locate': The very fast drop-in replacement for GNU fileutils (https://github.com/hungptit/ioutils) (60 min)
    "This talk will share challenges that I have faced during the development of fast-find and fast-locate commands. I will dive deep into the used design patterns and algorithms during the presentation to explain why fast-find and fast-locate are significantly faster than both GNU find and GNU locate."

Getting there:

CIC Cambridge is in Kendall Square, at 101 Main St. For MBTA riders, the Red-Line stops at Kendall Square, as does several buses. For drivers, there are several parking lots nearby; I had good luck with the Kendall Square Garage, (operated by Pilgrim Parking, 350 Kendall St.), which is 9$ after 4PM.
