We have two great talks and a demo planned in April! The first talk is "FHIR at athena: from Product Strategy to Data Lakes" and the other talk is "Partners HealthCare – Health Innovation Platform". Then we plan to see a small experiment, "Fax to FHIR".

Doors open at 5:30, food and beverages provided, we will start the first talk at 6PM. There are two parking garages available for those that are driving. The MBTA #70 bus stops at the intersection of School and Arsenal Streets, right in front.

FHIR at athena: from Product Strategy to Data Lakes

You’re convinced. FHIR is a valuable tool to improve healthcare interoperability. The executives are excited and the engineers are ready, but where do you start? Does your product need FHIR, or do your users care? What technologies and architecture are best suited for implementing a FHIR data model for 100 million patients in a scalable way?

In this two-part talk, we will share some lessons learned while delivering a product for our EHR users leveraging FHIR. You will learn a few ways to articulate the value of FHIR to non-technical stakeholders and incorporate it into your product strategy, as well as our technical approach to building a FHIR-based healthcare data lake using MapReduce and big data technologies.

Fax to FHIR

Chris will walk through a small proof-of-concept that will demonstrate using a programmable fax API (Twilio) and NLP (AWS Comprehend) to receive a fax, categorize, and then export as FHIR.
