Boston FHIR @ Optum: SMART and Da Vinci

Details

We are happy to have our July meetup over at the Optum offices in the Fenway area (we picked a day the Red Sox aren't playing, so traffic will be regular bad, not super bad).

We plan to have two (2) talks, followed by Q&A and networking. Food and beverages will be provided. Doors open at 5:30pm, we should start the first talk around 6pm.

SMART on FHIR Overview

Changes to recent federal rules will require companies to adopt the SMART on FHIR standard for interoperability. These changes offer a great opportunity for developers to create new innovative tools for use by payers, patients and providers.

The SMART program at Boston Children's Hospital is leading the charge in the development of these standards. The SMART specification is composed of several open standards, including the FHIR API, OAuth, and Open ID connect. In addition, the SMART team is working on several exciting projects such as CDS Hooks, the Bulk data API and SMART Markers for patient-reported outcomes (PROs).

Come get a high-level overview of the work that the SMART team has spearheaded and learn how you can get involved with this evolving health IT development community.

Introducing the HL7’s Da Vinci Project

Our second presentation introduces the efforts of HL7’s Da Vinci project, the goal of which is to help payers and providers to positively impact clinical, quality, cost and care management outcomes. Da Vinci stakeholders are industry leaders and health IT technical experts who are working together to accelerate the adoption of FHIR as the standard to support and integrate value-based care (VBC) data exchange across communities. Use cases for common workflows are linked to high volume, manual activities that would benefit from automation of portions of the workflow that collect critical data to improve outcomes.
