Exploring Cyanotypes: A 2-Week Class
Details
Members: $100 Nonmembers: $130
Explore the magic of cyanotypes in this hands-on, two-part workshop perfect for beginners and creatives of all kinds! One of the first photographic processes ever developed, cyanotypes (also known as blueprints or sunprints) allow you to create unique prints from natural and/or found objects. Using light-sensitive chemicals, we will use objects like leaves, flowers, lace, jewelry and more! (supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own)
In Class 1, you’ll learn the basics of the historic sun-printing technique and create your own set of blue-and-white designs on paper and fabric. We’ll discuss other ways to create your own prints at home and how various printing methods can change a finished design.
In Class 2, we’ll take your prints further by introducing toning techniques that shift the cyanotype’s signature blue with tea, coffee, red wine, and more! You’ll also have an opportunity to create larger wearable prints on items brought from home and thrifted fabric.
This workshop is perfect for beginners, and anyone interested in alternative photographic processes. Leave with a set of unique prints and a deeper appreciation for the beauty of natural light and texture! The perfect way to take advantage of the hot summer sun!
*NOTE: Cyanotypes need sunlight to develop! Because of this, we have reserved rain dates for this workshop on Saturday October 11th and 18th, 11:00-2:00pm. We will reach out to the class once we have a better idea of the forecast and let you know if either session has to be changed
