Mountain Bike Ramble Through Sudbury Marlboro and Stow

Details

Come join us this Saturday morning at 9AM, for a beginner friendly Mountain Bike Ramble through the towns of Sudbury, Marlboro and Stow.

The goal is to hit as many different parcels of land while staying off paved public roads as much as possible. We will be riding thorough private and town conservation lands, town and state forests and federal refuges.

The trails themselves consist of abandoned railroads, woods road/fire road, single track and even some paved road. Most dirt sections will be hard pack dirt or grass with some root and rock and a few sandy areas. There might be a rock garden or two, but they will be pretty tame. We have one stream crossing, so don't be surprised if you get a wet foot. All in all, about as mellow as you can get off road in Massachusetts.

Mountain bikes are recommended, although riders with good off road skills can do this with hybrid bikes and those with excellent skills will have no problem on a road bike. Most of us will want a mountain bike of some kind.

I am expecting the ride to be about 25 to 30 miles long. So while you don't need to have mad mountain bike skills, you do need to be in bike shape. If you work out regularly and have been doing other kinds of bike rides of 25, 30 or more miles, you should have no problems. The group won't leave you behind, but we also expect you to stay up with the group.

Bring tons of water, lunch and snacks. We will be eating on the trail, and there are no stores or services along the ride. Also, be sure your bike is working properly and bring a spare tire tube in case of flats.

I struggle to find adequate words to describe just how much fun these bike rambles are. They are basically a handful of friendly, good natured people who just want to ride their bikes in the woods. We plan a simple route and then see where the trails take us.
