Making Colors Sing: Seeing the colors of the season like an artist.

Details
"Color is a power that directly influences the soul." W. Kandinsky
Learn how to see the colors of nature through the eyes of an artist and photograph it like a pro. Create images that capture the natural wonders of the Mount Auburn Cemetery in your own unique way. You may think a cemetery is a strange place for a photography workshop, but this location is a visual treasure trove packed with beauty waiting to be photographed by you.
During this photo workshop we will focus on three skills:
- How to gain control over your camera setting by going off Auto. We will work on how to use depth of field (f-stop) settings to isolate your subject and create drama.
- How to use a variety of creative compositions to organize the content of your image in fresh, exciting ways beyond the rule of thirds.
- How to be more mindful before you click the shutter so you experience the beauty of the place and can translate that into your image.
See sample photos below. No longer able to insert them here in the text.
We will end class with a hike up the tower for this spectacular 360% view! Or you can stay down on the ground if you don't care for heights. Great view from there as well. We will change camera settings to capture the details of big landscape scenes like this.
About Mount Auburn By FRIENDS OF MOUNT AUBURN (http://mountauburn.org/author/friends-of-mount-auburn/)
"Nature, which had once been something to fear, had by the early nineteenth century become considered a thing of beauty, mystery and awe. Mount Auburn’s founders embraced and celebrated the natural terrain of their new Cemetery. The design philosophies of the picturesque were developed in response to this new celebration of nature and the unknown.
The contrast of vibrant color against the granite sculptures and winding paths offers many stunning opportunities for creative expression."

I will introduce you to some simple step by step practices for creative seeing so you can find beauty in the most unexpected places. I will show you some inspiring example photos to help get you started. I will help challenge your assumptions about what makes an interesting photo.
I have designed a series of three specific assignments to challenge your creativity and get you out of your habitual ways of seeing.
You will have a chance to try these out right away with my guidance out on the grounds. You will receive individual coaching and critique while we are in the field shooting. This way you can be confident that you will be able to repeat the process next time you are out on a shoot.
We will work with color, texture, pattern, and light to make our photos come to life. As always, this is a non technical jargon zone. It is all about the creative act of seeing and capturing the moments of life with a fresh eye. There is a sudden sense of discovery when you get a glimpse of nature in this way.
This workshop is for you if:
• You want to develop your eye to see beyond the basic, obvious images.
• You would like to go off auto and explore depth of field with aperture priority.
• Your photos are “nice” but not jaw dropping all that often.
• You would like to go beyond the basics of composition and learn more advanced ways of composing your images using dynamic tension and harmony.
Taking better photos takes practice and with guidance the you know what to focus on and how to see with the creative eye of an art photographer.
I am very excited about offering this intensive workshop. I know you will leave with 5 new tips and techniques for seeing creatively that you will be able to apply to any type of photography you do in the future. Handouts will be provided so you can practice the skills you learn again on your own. This is the best way to really improve.
The $65.00 tuition for the workshop. This will be a small class. Only 8 participants.
For directions and parking suggestion please visit the Mount Auburn Cemetery website. http://mountauburn.org

There are public restrooms and parking.
