Greetings Photographers!
It is going to be a balmy 50 degrees on Saturday so let's get out and enjoy it. This will be a good way to walk off that Thanksgiving Feast. The vibrant colors of fall may be gone, but now there is a whole new world to explore with your camera.
Because this is a hectic time of year, we are going to take it slow. The best way to do this is to focus on your subject and take time to really see the beauty it has to offer. This is a gift given to you when you deepen your seeing and pay attention. Macro and closeup photography are often seen as a mindful form of photography that requires you to be fully present. Once you get the hang of this, it is something you can do any time any place on your own. Ill provide handouts and guidance you can follow again in the future.
What most people walk right past with out thinking about taking a photo becomes a fascinating photo when seen with a photographers eye.
We will work with both macro and close up shots. It is great if you have a macro lens, but not essential for the class. You can still do the close up shots. Take a look at the samples below to get as sense of what we will focus on.
This class is all about creative seeing and being open to the unexpected beauty around us. It is up to you to use composition and camera settings to highlight the visual qualities you see. This is a good class for going off auto and using aperture priority or honing your manual skills.
• How to enter the "flow" state using mindful breathing techniques
• What camera settings are best for closeup photography
• How to choose a good subject
• How to make sure your subject is in sharp focus and properly exposed
• How to use creative composition for added impact
The simple creative seeing techniques I introduce will immediately open your eyes to more subtle qualities of color, light, texture and shape that usually go unnoticed.
Bokeh Technique: Japanese aesthetic of blurring the background so your subject captivates our attention and appreciation. This will be one of the techniques I will introduce during the workshop.
All levels welcome. You can shoot in auto, aperture priority or manual. iphones also welcome. I am keeping the group small so I can work with each of you on the spot to provide helpful guidance. I will provide handouts so you can practice what you learn after the workshop.
You will meet some friendly people who share your interest in photography.
Not much walking for this one so you could bring a tripod if you like to work with it for macro shots. But not essential.
