Mount Major Trail is rated MODERATE- 4 Miles /1100 Ft Elevation Gain. This day trip is suitable for those with at least average fitness and physical activity levels.

COST: FREE. Carpool will cost $25 per person. ($10 per person for those who qualify - currently in college/grad school or within 5 years of graduating college)

CARPOOL: Limited number of carpool spots are available from Boston and Cambridge.

Plan:
7:30AM - Leave Boston/Cambridge with Carpool
9:30AM - Start hike. Take frequent breaks
1:00PM- Finish hike
1:30PM - Lunch
3:00PM - Drive back to Boston/Cambridge

THINGS TO BRING: suitable clothing, water, shoes, snacks, layers.
SHOES SUITABLE FOR WINTER HIKING - "WATERPROOF" RATED SHOES ARE REQUIRED, "INSULATED" RATED ARE RECOMMENDED. Be careful with unspecific ratings like "WEATHERPROOF". You can find reasonably priced outdoor shoes from brands such as Merrell, Timberland, The North Face, Kamik, etc., for $40 to $90 at Marshall's (22 McGrath Hwy, Somerville), Macy's (450 Washington St, Boston), or David's Shoes On First (75 First St, Cambridge). Microspikes/CrampOns are recommended but not required.
