Platos’ student Aristotle lays out his classification of political regimes and what the aims of any regime should be. It is in this philosophical work that Aristotle comes up with the term “mixed regime”, which has caused so much debate among philosophers of justice and political theorists down the centuries. Is only a mixed regime just because raw Oligarchy, Democracy, or Tyranny each neglect justice in some fundamental form?
