Managing PostgreSQL Replication Lag at Scale
Details
Hi everyone,
We will be hosting a Boston PostgreSQL meetup event on July 22th, 2026 between 6:30PM and 8:30 PM ET at the Google Cambridge 5CC office(355 Main St, Cambridge, MA 02142). The speakers will be talking about - Managing PostgreSQL Replication Lag at Scale: Common Pitfalls and Best Workarounds.
Please RSVP for this meetup event before July 18th 2026.
Below is the abstract for the topic and brief bio about our speakers -
Abstract
As PostgreSQL deployments scale to handle high-throughput workloads, maintaining real-time replication becomes a critical challenge. Replication lag—often manifesting as severe Log Sequence Number (LSN) gaps between primary and standby nodes—can compromise data freshness, delay failovers, and trigger cascading system degradation. This talk describes best practices for maintaining low replication lag and explains how common workloads cause it.
About the speakers
Shihao Zhong is a Senior Software Engineer at Google, where he works on the AlloyDB Storage team, focusing on the replication and performance.
