Please join IxDA Boston for a stimulating set of talks at GoInvo's Arlington studio!

Speakers Dana Chisnell, Lisa deBettencourt, and Sharon Lee will discuss how we’re losing control of our digital and political lives and how we all need to get involved (in policy-making and local governance); the concept of surveillance-as-a-service; and how Design can and should be a critical part of envisioning, deploying, and maintaining citizen-focused services. Each discussion will last approximately 20 minutes and there will be plenty of time for Q&A as well as the usual networking and socializing. There is parking nearby and some public transportation options as well.

Refreshments graciously provided by GoInvo.

Parking is available nearby, and public transportation options are also available.

About Our Speakers

Dana Chisnell is a pioneer and thought leader in civic design. She has worked with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) on the use of language in instructions on ballots, and on standards and testing for poll worker documentation for the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines (VVSG). She is an expert in plain language and usability for older adults, including groundbreaking work at AARP that was the basis for several requirements in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
Dana also did a tour of duty in the United States Digital Service in the Obama White House, doing user research and civic design across agencies. Her particular focus was on helping US Citizenship and Immigration Services modernize its software development and design practices to improve experiences for immigration officers and the public and helping the Dept of Homeland Security to modernize its procurement process. She teaches Design in Government at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in the masters level Democracy, Politics and Institutions program, and is Co-Director of the Center for Civic Design.

Lisa deBettencourt is a design executive and strategy specialist. She works with organizations in health and life sciences to discover, develop, and operationalize innovative ways to improve patient experience and outcomes amidst increasing regulatory demands, consumer expectations, and technological complexity.
Lisa founded the consulting firm Forge Harmonic, LLC after more than two decades creating award-winning products and commercial successes for businesses within and beyond healthcare. Most recently she was VP of Design at Confer Health and, prior to that, was Head of Product Design at Imprivata, a leading healthcare IT security company.
Lisa is a co-author of Designing for Emerging Technologies: UX for Genomics, Robotics, and the Internet of Things, and is an adjunct professor in the Digital Media Master’s Degree Program at Northeastern University.

Sharon Lee is a designer and researcher at GoInvo, with an eclectic background in engineering, medicine, and art. Passionate about healthcare, she has focused her efforts on human-centered software design to improve the patient and clinician experience.
