Boston VR Open Mic Night
Details
To attend you'll need to download and install the iLRN app and run it. It's nearly three gigs, so you'll have to be patient if your internet is slow. You might want to start using the desktop app, because HMD support is minimal. Downloads and instructions are here: https://immersivelrn.org/ilrn-virtual-campus/
Go to the Circle of Scholars Assembly Hall on the iLRN campus.
As usual, we are also running a parallel zoom session to help people ramp in or just spectate.

Open mic night is about capturing the feeling of our in-person meetups: spontaneous exchanges with new friends, exploring new topics, getting and giving recommendations. Walking around the room trying demos, hearing snippets of dialog, picking up interesting conversations...
Open mic nights are a great way to learn to perform in a low-pressure environment and are a perfect way to practice and refine your material. Whether you're talking about your successes or your failures, sharing knowledge or seeking guidance, we're genuinely interested in your material and would love to hear what you have to say.
The night will be split in two phases. If you're not inclined to present, maybe you'd like to lead a discussion afterwards in a smaller breakout room where we can split up and chew on the ideas a bit. And while we may not have real pizza and beer* for a while, we can try to recapture the feeling of ideating together.
*(Bringing your own pizza and beer is encouraged)
WE HAVE THREE SPEAKERS, SO FAR. (walk-ons welcome)
Shareen Lindquist, CEO of PraxSim VR
Rethinking the Apprenticeship Model of Surgical Training: See One. Do One. Teach One.” Yeah, right. It’s time to bring surgical training into the 21st century.
Giuseppe Zemba, Link to VR
He will speak on a recent VR deployment within the Vocational Rehabilitation space. The project is titled VR Squared and leverages the transformative nature of XR to provide essential soft skills training to the clients of viability.
Jeff Bail, BostonVR Co-Organizer
With this meetup just a couple days after MLK Day, we'll have a review of "Traveling While Black" a VR documentary film directed by Roger Ross Williams. Afterwards we'll have a short discussion about the film, about racism in America and about how "VR for good" might have an impact. You can view it on the Oculus Quest, Go, or Rift: https://www.oculus.com/vr-for-good/stories/traveling-while-black-explores-black-america-past-and-present/
