Joins us for a 90 minute walk in the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, which has a nice trail with some decks built over the masrch to enjoy the views and spot wildlife. The Refuge
is a river wetlands conservation area, with a great diversity of birds, including nesting waterfowl: mallards, black ducks, wood ducks, and blue-winged teal. White-tailed deer, muskrats, red fox, raccoons, cottontail rabbits, weasels, beaver, squirrels, and a variety of small mammals are common. Many species of amphibians and reptiles are active during the warmer months. Carp arrive in the Refuge marsh areas to spawn, typically from late April through early June. The peak of this massive spawning frenzy, where fish thrash in shallow, vegetated water, usually occurs around May. Its always nice to see the seasons changing in the Refuge. Parking is $4 per vehicle and spaces are limited, carpool if you can.
