Building My First WordPress Block Theme - Anne S. Katzeff
Anne was an early adopter of the Gutenberg block-based editor. Using blocks to edit and create content is a breeze for her now. A couple of months ago, she dove into designing and developing her first WordPress block theme. She didn’t anticipate that building block themes would have such a steep learning curve. There are growing pains. In this presentation, Anne will share the major steps in her journey, highlighting the biggest pain points.

For those who are new to using the Site Editor and for experienced designers/developers wanting to compare notes, everyone will get great take-aways from the evening!

Speaker Bio
Anne designs custom websites for creative people, small businesses, and nonprofits. She has been running her own business, ASK Design, for more than 20 years, turning her focus to web design about 15 years ago. WordPress is one of her specialties. She’s become very active in the WordPress community as a Program Supporter, Core/Test/Outreach Contributor, MeetUp Organizer, speaker, and member of the Training and Design teams.

What started as an idea in the spring of 2023, quickly blossomed from a side hobby to a dedicated day-to-day role. Learn about James’s journey into the nonprofit space and volunteering his spare time to maintain nonprofit websites. If you’re a designer or developer and spending time contributing to open-source technology, why not contribute some time to help maintain nonprofit websites that are servicing the public? Provide community service for good while learning new techniques with WordPress. Learn how and where you can start!

James is a dedicated front-end web developer based in Boston with 15 years of experience. With a background in graphic design, he’s honed his craft by channeling knowledge toward compelling user interfaces and elevating user experiences through innovative web development practices. WordPress has been his tool of choice for website development since the beginning and he actively joined the WordPress community in 2023.
