Focused conversation: Content audits

Details
Join us for a focused and friendly conversation about content audits. Sometimes tech writers need to find out what the state of the documentation is at the moment. Perhaps it's to prepare for a conversion to a new delivery platform, CMS, or toolset. Perhaps it's to ensure your docs are in compliance with new regulatory requirements. Perhaps there have been enough complaints from customers about dated or out-of-date docs that leadership decided to allot resources to fix "the problems with the docs." Whatever the reason, content audits can be overwhelming, especially if there is a high volume of docs. Let's share our experiences, strategies, and lessons learned so we're all better prepared for the next time we face a content audit.
Some questions to get us started:
- Are you expecting to do a content audit soon, or do you think your organization should do one? Why or why not?
- Have you been involved in a content audit? What was the impetus for it? What goal did you intent to achieve?
- What roles were/will be involved? Who lead/will lead the effort?
- What information did/will you collect about each doc? Were/are you involved in helping decide those criteria?
- How "big" was/is the audit project? in terms of number of docs vs. number of people doing the audit? in terms of time, either FTEs or calendar time?
- Did/will you audit your own docs or other people's docs?
- Summarize your audit project's post mortem: What went well? What went badly? What would you differently next time?
- What surprised you about your content audit?
Bring your thoughts and questions, and attend for as long as your schedule allows. Our goal is to give you an opportunity to support and network with each other.
The discussion is on Zoom. We’ll post the links on the Meetup event by the previous evening. To attend, you must RSVP to the Meetup event. We use the attendees list to screen out Zoom bombers, so it's especially helpful if you have the same display name in Zoom as your name on Meetup.
