Focused conversation: Information architecture for technical publications

Details

Join us for a focused and friendly conversation about information architecture in technical publications.

The best-written documentation won't do you any good if your user can't find it. The solution? Good information architecture. It's a term used in lots of fields and contexts, so we'll start by trying to clarify what it means in technical writing (and possibly some "close cousin" fields).

Some other questions to explore:

  • How would you describe the information architecture (IA) of your documentation today? How did it develop?
  • What are some of the best experiences you've had trying to find information as a user? How about bad experiences?
  • As a documentarian, are there decisions about IA you've made that you later regretted? or successes you'd like to share?
  • What have your experiences (as a user and otherwise) taught you about best practices in organizing information?
  • For those who have been writing for a while.... How have IA best practices changed in documentation over your career?
  • What trends do you see coming in IA? Are there things you're excited about? dreading?
  • Has today's conversation inspired you to want to make changes to your documentation? What are they?

Bring your thoughts and questions, and attend for as long as your schedule allows. Our goal is to give you an opportunity to support and network with each other.

The discussion is on Zoom. We’ll post the link on the Meetup event by the previous evening. To attend, you must RSVP to the Meetup event. We use the attendees list to screen out Zoom bombers, so please set your Zoom display name to match the name you use on Meetup.
