The Holi Festival is an event photographer's dream, with wildly happy, energetic people and amazing colors. It's my favorite event of the year by far and it's next to impossible not to be swept up in the blissful vibes as the photos from last year demonstrate:

The only downside to this event is that, with all that colored powder in the air, you really must take serious precautions to protect your camera and lens. AT A MINIMUM, you should seal every seam on your camera with gaffer tape and use a uv filter on your lens. I also use one of those inexpensive Op-Tech rain covers to be sure the powder stays away from my camera body & lens.

Braj Mandir temple is right on Rte. 37 (S. Franklin St.). There used to be field parking adjacent to the temple but now folks just park on both sides of the street. Lets meet in the front of the temple parking lot where the festivities take place.

GEAR: Dress in something you won't mind getting colored or go all in and wear white as many participants do. I suggest bringing a zoom with wide to tele capabilities. The powder zone is the last place you want to be changing lenses so generally what you start with is what you'll use for the duration. Gaffer tape will come and handy and I usually also bring a small step stool to get just slightly above the crowd when necessary. And don't forget an old blanket/sheet to keep all that color off your car seats!

PARKING: Street. You'll find an officer or two directing traffic.
