Watch City Steampunk Festival
Details
If you're unfamiliar with the Steampunk concept, a quick Google search will set you straight. In any event, these folks are deep in their happy place, have amazing costumes which some of them have clearly spent LOTS of time and money on and are dying for someone to come up and ask if you can take their picture. This bills itself as the largest outdoor Steampunk Festival in the US and has been going on since 2010. Website here: https://www.watchcityfestival.com/
If the weather is halfway decent, the turnout is usually very high and I guaranty you'll come away with some treasured photographs. The event used to start at 10:00 but new rules limit events on the Common to no more than 4 hours so the official start is noon (vendors, entertainers, etc.). I wouldn't be surprised if the participants start showing up before the "official" start time so I've scheduled the meetup to start at 11:30. The crowds always grow as the day wears on so don't worry about showing up late.
GEAR: This is mostly a portrait opportunity so bring a fast lens or two to get that good subject separation but, as always, bring what ya got and make it work . If it's a sunny day I also suggest an off camera speed light to tame full sun shadows or emphasize subjects in the shade.
PARKING: Public lot about a block away at Central Square Parking between Common & Lexington streets. Also 3 minute walk from commuter rail stop.
